29th Firefly Centre Established in Nanning, Guangxi

  Guangxi, 18thOctober, 2013: The Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation—BEA Charity Fund (the “Fund”) held the opening ceremony for its 29th Firefly Centre in Chengguan No.2 Primary School, Yongning District, Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. This is the 2ndFirefly Centre to be established in Guangxi. The event was attended by Mr. Matthew Chiang, General Manager of Human Resource Division of BEA China and a number of government officials from Nanning City.
  
  Chengguan No.2 Primary School was established in 1905 in Pumiao Town and occupies 6365-square-meters’ land. The school has a faculty of 102 staff serving 1,800 students spread over 36 classes. Although the school previously operated a computer course,due to a lack of advanced facilities, the teachers were unable to provide an ideal learning experience. The new Firefly Centre satisfies the needs of the students and school through facilities which include computers, internet access, projectors, audio-visual equipment and more than 4,000 books valued at around RMB300,000. In addition, at the ceremony, the Fund donated 900 Firefly 60 backpacks containing stationery to the students.
  
  The Fund was established in November 2009 and was the first charity fund to be established by a foreign bank in Mainland China. The Firefly Project is one of the principalprojects of the Fund, and is focused on donating and building Firefly Centres with advanced facilities such as computers, internet access as well as reading rooms with study desks. With the establishment of the Firefly Centre at Chengguan No.2 Primary School, the Firefly Project has now established 29 Firefly Centres nationwide, and provided 18,000 Firefly 60 Backpacks to disadvantaged students.
