We sincerely hope that by blazing trails ourselves, we can inspire more young people to join us in helping to improve the quality of education of rural areas.”
Volunteers who distinguished themselves through exemplary service the previous year were also invited as special guests, and they shared their teaching stories and experience. Mr. Cartier Lam Chi-man, Executive Director & Chief Executive of BEA China and Mr. Zhou Xufeng, Deputy Secretary General of YICAI Foundation, then presented them with an award in recognition of their dedication and love. During the panel discussion, several senior charity experts spoke one-on-one with the representatives of teacher volunteers from remote mountainous regions. They had a thoughtful and insightful conversation about teaching problems and experiences. Experts also offered their guidance. At the end of the event, all 12 volunteers who will participate in the new season of Teaching Programme went onstage together and waved the flag to mark the official launch of the One-Year Teaching Programme II.
After the call for applications in May 2018, One-Year Teaching Programme has once again drawn the spotlight of public attention. After evaluating applicants’ performance across a range of competencies including personal character, values, communication skills, learning ability, leadership and ability to work under pressure, 12 excellent volunteers were selected as the new cohort of teachers.
The programme aims to recruit the best-qualified teachers from all over China and bring them to teach in remote rural areas. This in turn means charity will reach more of those in need. In addition to fully covering volunteers’ expenses for the year, the programme provides extensive support, including specialist training, teaching assistance, a “Dream Fund” offering research and other grants, and help with finding career opportunities after the completion of the programme. All of these measures will give greater numbers of highly-driven young people the courage to engage in charity work.
